Synopsis

Keywords: DWI/DTI/DKI, DWI/DTI/DKI

Motivation: Sleep Deprivation is characterized by partial or total loss of normal sleep due to various reasons, has emerged as a social public health problem.

Goal(s): To evaluate the alterations of glymphatic function in patients with sleep deprivation.

Approach: We investigate the functionality of glymphatic system (GS) in patients with sleep deprivation using diffusion tensor imaging analysis along with the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS).

Results: Compared to the ALPS index measured pre-24-hour sleep deprivation, both the ALPS index measured post-24-hour sleep deprivation and sleep recovery were significantly lower.

Impact: In conclusion, the DTI-APLS index may have the potential to assess the impaired function of the glymphatic system in sleep deprived individuals.
