Synopsis

Keywords: Placenta, Diagnosis/Prediction

Motivation: Placental T2 values decrease with advancing gestational age and placental insufficiency. However, an evaluation method that accounts for gestational age-dependent T2 values has not been established.

Goal(s): Our goal was to develop an accurate method using Z-scored T2 values for risk stratification in pregnancies with fetal growth restriction (FGR).

Approach: A model for Z-scored placental T2 values based on gestational age was created among 36 normal pregnancies. Subsequently, among 24 FGR pregnancies (categorized by favorable or unfavorable outcomes), ROC analyses of T2 values and Z-scored T2 values were conducted.

Results: Z-scored T2 values outperformed T2 values (AUC, 0.97 vs 0.80).

Impact: Compared to T2 values, Z-scored placental T2 values facilitate a more accurate risk stratification of pregnancies with fetal growth restriction. This methodology provides essential guidance for intensive monitoring and optimal timing decisions regarding pregnancy termination.
