Synopsis

Motivation: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) treatment is sensitive and require a close follow which is not obvious clinically.

Goal(s): To determine the reliability of DWI and ADC maps in the evaluation of HIE therapy

Approach: 30 neonate SD rats were used for this study, divided into 5 groups of six individuals. The control group had a sham operation and the others had the ligation and hypoxic treatment prior to the imaging

Results: DWI is a sensitive and effective method for the investigation of the HIE . ADC Mapping can be used to assess changes which are not visible on the DWI images.

Impact: Finding suggested that ADC Maps can be used to evaluate changes that are not obvious on DWI images. BMSCs were used to treat HIE and could be tracked using MRI imaging and labeling them with SPIO-PLL.
