Synopsis

Keywords:

Motivation: To demonstrate whether SmartSpeed Motion Free an alternative to Cartesian scan and MultiVane XD in terms of basic image characteristics.

Goal(s): To compare the basic image characteristics of the Cartesian scan, MultiVane XD, and SmartSpeed Motion Free in the absence of patient motion.

Approach: Contrast ratio, contrast to noise ratio, noise power spectrum, and contrast response for the sharpness were evaluated in the phantom experiments.

Results: SmartSpeed Motion Free has the same contrast as Cartesian scan and MultiVane XD, with less noise and a frequency characteristic similar to the Cartesian scan. Furthermore, it had better sharpness than MultiVane XD.

Impact: SmartSpeed Motion Free has the potential to provide superior image quality compared to MultiVane XD and image quality closer to Cartesian scan in the same scan time, even if patient motion has not occurred.
