Synopsis

Keywords:

Motivation: To identify barriers experienced by research patients who undergo an MRI scan

Goal(s): To improve the experiences of research patients undergoing an MRI scan by identifying and addressing barriers that research patients encountered

Approach: 30 participants completed a five-point Likert questionnaire with statistical analysis. A selection of these patients were invited to join a researcher guided focus group. Open ended questions were offered and anonymised transcripts were taken as key themes were discussed

Results: Patient experience was reported as generally good, however improvements regarding communication and logistics of attending MRI appointments were suggested. Patients' responses were dependent on many different, often personal factors

Impact: It was evident there is a need for more participants who completed the questionnaire to attend the focus group due to the disparities noted. It is also important in further studies to ensure a more representative demographic sample.
