T1&[rho] in articular cartilage and the loss of proteoglycans

T2 and T1&[rho] relaxation maps of articular cartilage were obtained from patients undergoing total joint replacement and were compared with the corresponding histological slices stained with Safranin. Visual appearance of the T2 and T1&[rho] maps was similar. No clear correlation between the T1&[rho] and concentration of proteoglycans was observed.
