We study the effect of using high diffusion weighting (
b
-value)
and high angular resolution diffusion imaging in
resolving multiple intravoxel crossing fiber
populations. Three
q
-ball
diffusion-sampling scenarios are considered:
b
-value
of 5000 s/mm
2
with
128 diffusion sampling gradient directions and
b
-value
of 10000 s/mm
2
with
128 and 256 directions. The spherical harmonics
expansion method is used to reconstruct the diffusion
orientation distribution functions (ODFs). The results
show that increasing
b
-value
and angular resolution increases the sharpness of the
ODF as well as the amplitude of the subdominant fiber
population, indicating a more accurate delineation of
the intravoxel fiber crossing.
