In the present study in vitro measurements were performed to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of GABA detection with 1 H-MEGA-PRESS. Spectra were acquired in a phantom containing several metabolites of defined concentrations emulating their composition in the brain. The obtained spectra were used to simulate in vivo conditions by reducing SNR GABA and broadening linewidths. It was figured out that for sufficiently small CVs (< 7 %) a SNR GABA of at least 2 is required, whereas for SNR GABA > 6 the CVs remain independent of FWHM. These results were compared to an in vivo investigation in one healthy volunteer.
