C57BL/6 is the most widely used mouse strain used in different research areas including developmental biology and neuroscience. In addition, C57BL/6 mice are commonly used as a background strain in the production of transgenic mouse model of human neurodegenerative diseases. But these mice exhibit a sporadic congenital portosystemic shunt resulting in abnormally high levels of brain glutamine. This study we demonstrate how 1 H MRS can help to identify these mice to eliminate potential bias in studies using this mouse strain.
