Synopsis

Keywords: Prostate, Quantitative Imaging

Motivation: Accurate image-based characterization of prostate lesions in the peripheral zone is critical for patient management and biopsy decision making.

Goal(s): To evaluate the utility of MRF for characterizing prostatic lesions validated with MR-TRUS fusion biopsy.

Approach: MRF-derived T1 and T2 values were combined with standard ADC assessment to characterize prostate lesions in the peripheral zone. The accuracy was evaluated with MR-TRUS fusion biopsy as the ground truth.

Results: Lesion characterization using all three tissue properties (T1, T2, and ADC) provided the highest accuracy in differentiation of clinically significant prostate cancer from low-grade prostate cancer and benign lesions.

Impact: The results from this study demonstrate the potential role of magnetic resonance fingerprinting as a quantitative imaging tool for differentiating clinically significant prostate cancers to provide critical information and increase confidence in subsequent biopsy decision-making.
