Synopsis

Keywords: Safety, Safety, spatial-average SAR; OpenSource Algorithm;

Motivation: IEC 60601-2-33 standard limits the 10 g spatial-average SAR when local transmit RF coils are used. The IEC/IEEE 62704-1 standard defines a procedure for performing the spatial-averaging but open-source implementations of the procedure are not available.

Goal(s): To provide a free, open-source implementation of the spatial-averaging procedure described in the IEC/IEEE 62704-1 standard.

Approach: The spatial-average algorithm is coded in Python-C . Outcomes are verified using test data provided with the IEC/IEEE 62704-1 standard.

Results: Outcomes comply with the IEC/IEEE 62704-1 standard requirements and computation times are found to be reasonable for all the investigated cases.

Impact: The spatial-average SAR implementation enables average SAR computation compliant with IEC/IEEE 62704-1 without using commercial software. Typical applications include post-processing using circuit co-simulation, or to add this capability to EM solvers that lack this feature.

For one year after publication, abstracts and videos are only open to registrants of this annual meeting. Registrants should use their existing login information. Non-registrant access can be purchased via the ISMRM E-Library.

After one year, current ISMRM & ISMRT members get free access to both the abstracts and videos. Non-members and non-registrants must purchase access via the ISMRM E-Library.

After two years, the meeting proceedings (abstracts) are opened to the public and require no login information. Videos remain behind password for access by members, registrants and E-Library customers.
