Synopsis

Keywords: fMRI Analysis, Treatment, arterial spin labeling, voxel-based morphometry, migraine, patent foramen ovale, patent foramen ovale closure

Motivation: Assessing effects of PFO closure on CBF and GMV in migraineurs with PFO via multimodal MRI.

Goal(s): Using multimodal MRI to evaluate resting-state CBF and GMV changes in migraineurs with PFO, pre- and post-closure, providing neuroimaging insights on PFO closure's efficacy for migraine.

Approach: Baseline and post-treatment pcASL and high-res T1WI images were acquired from migraineurs with PFO and healthy controls. Using ASL post-processing and VBM, standardized preprocessing and statistical modeling analyzed interictal resting-state CBF and GMV differences pre- and post-PFO closure in migraineurs.

Results: Migraineurs with PFO show pre- and post-treatment abnormalities in CBF and GMV across multiple brain regions.

Impact: Resting-state pcASL and VBM aid in exploring neuroimaging mechanisms of headache relief in migraineurs with PFO post-PFO closure.
