Synopsis

Motivation: Heart failure (HF) is associated with cognitive impairments, particularly cortical thinning. Investigating brain structural changes and their relationship with cognitive function in different HF subtypes is crucial for clinical outcomes.

Goal(s): To examine cortical thickness changes and their association with cognitive function in HF patients over a one-year follow-up period.

Approach: Cortical thickness was assessed using 3D TIWI in HF patients and healthy controls. The relationship between cortical thickness, cognitive performance, and HF subtypes was explored.

Results: Cortical thickness was reduced in HF patients, with distinct patterns across HF subtypes, and associated with cognitive function scores.

Impact: This study provides new insights into cognitive impairment mechanisms in HF, aiding non-invasive glymphatic dysfunction assessment.
