Parenchymal CSF mapping (pCSF) from MR T2-relaxometry is associated with PET-measured ventricular CSF clearance (vCSF) in Alzheimer's disease

Synopsis

Motivation: The association between PET-based ventricular (v) CSF clearance (vCSF) and MRI T2 relaxometry-based parenchymal CSF (pCSF) mapping has not been investigated in Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Goal(s): To evaluate the correlation between vCSF and pCSF mapping and their associations with amyloid in AD.

Approach: Use MR T2 relaxometry-based pCSF mapping and 18F-MK-6240-PET measured vCSF to evaluate their correlation, and their association with 11C-PiB-PET measured amyloid burden.

Results: vCSF is more closely associated with pCSF mapping in proximal WM than GM. Both of pCSF and vCSF are associated with amyloid burden and show age and gender differences.

Impact: Understanding the brain CSF transport pathway and the association between lateral ventricle CSF turnover rate and brain parenchyma CSF offers insights on the future development of therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease.
