Synopsis

Keywords:

Motivation: Full Field Digital mammography(FFDM) is the most effective tool for screening of breast cancer but with drawback of superimposition of breast tissue. Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is advanced mammographic technique with reduced superimposition and higher specificity and reduced recall rate. Both of them imparts radiation dose to radiosensitive glandular tissue of breast. precise measurement of radiation dose is crucial for optimization according to ALARA.

Goal(s): Our goal was to measure radiation dose imparted by digital mammography and DBT and to compare them.

Approach: Cross sectional retrospective study was carried out.

Results: Radiation dose imparted by DBT is significantly higher compared to digital mammography.

Impact: The findings of this study can be used by authorized healthcare legal bodies for radiation dose analysis for optmization of radiation protection. The data can be used in estimation of local or national DRL in FFDM and DBT.
